Corsican nuthatch’s description

Do not mistake me for the Eurasian nuthatch who lives in Europe and in Asia. Me, I can only be found in Corsica. It’s very simple to differentiate us, you just have to look at my belly : mine is grey, and the one of the other nuthatches is orange.

Where do I live ?

I only live in the pine tree forests of Corsica, a french island.

Which threats ?

Unfortunately, more and more trees are cut for the wood industry, or destroyed by the forest fires during summer. Moreover, I am not interested in young trees, because they aren’t tall enough. I only live in old pine trees.

Kiwiwho’s word to save the Corsican nuthatch

Most of us live in the Regional Natural Park of Corsica, where forest rangers are in charge of controlling which trees to cut and which ones to let. They are kind of looking after us while taking care of the trees. Unfortunately, against forest fires, there isn’t any solution yet.

You too, help us to raise awareness about Corsican nuthatch’s fate !
